Assigning Leaders to Stations for an Engaging Experience
During preservice time, it is crucial to assign passionate leaders to specific activity stations. This ensures a seamless and captivating experience for children. For example, if there is a Connect 4 table, a dedicated leader guides and facilitates the game, sparking excitement and fostering camaraderie. Strategic placement of leaders at each end of an obstacle course provides unwavering encouragement and hands-on assistance as kids navigate challenges.
At tables with Legos, Hot Wheels, or Dinosaurs, leaders act as facilitators and champions of friendship and inclusivity. They create a warm and inviting atmosphere, forging connections among children and personally engaging with each one. By assigning leaders to activity stations, every child is seen, heard, and supported, fostering a profound sense of belonging and creating lasting memories.
Have Leaders Sit With Kids
During the service, I prioritize creating a strong connection with the kids by having my leaders sit with them. This fosters a sense of unity and ensures their utmost comfort. Before the large group session, I encourage the kids to break into small groups for meaningful discussions and bonding. Then, we bring the small groups together in the large group area, with the leader right alongside them. This intentional seating arrangement prevents any child from feeling isolated and lays the foundation for building relationships throughout the entire service.
Our leaders actively participate in the service, engaging with the kids through laughter, singing, actions, and paying close attention to the lesson. They stay physically close to their assigned kids, maintaining a safe and welcoming space. This proximity allows the kids to approach them with confidence and trust, fostering deeper connections and impactful conversations.
By maintaining this close involvement and proximity, our amazing leaders create an environment where kids feel empowered and supported. They can approach their leaders with ease, whether they need assistance or have questions. Trust is built from the start, enabling meaningful connections and impactful conversations to flourish.
Small Group Time:
When engaging with children, it's important to ask open-ended questions that spark curiosity and encourage critical thinking. Fully involve them in the activities outlined in your curriculum, as these activities are designed to support and enhance their learning experience. As a male teacher, I quickly realized the immense importance of this, as it helped address any concerns or questions they may have had about my interactions with their child.
