In a world filled with distractions and fleeting pleasures, the eternal hope of Jesus stands as a beacon of light, guiding us towards a life of purpose and fulfillment. Through a personal experience from my early days in ministry, I aim to emphasize the profound importance of sharing the hope of Jesus with our young ones.
A Ministry in Disarray
Several years ago, I stepped into a new role, inheriting a kids ministry that had lost its way. Instead of being a place of spiritual nourishment, it had become more of a recreational space. Preschoolers colored pictures of Jesus without understanding His significance, while the older kids were taught moral values without any biblical foundation. The music, devoid of worship, was merely a collection of fun songs from the internet.
Recognizing the urgent need for change, we reintroduced worship, Bible-based teachings, and challenges for the kids. The transformation was palpable. Parents and children alike were invigorated. The introduction of order, scripture memorization, and a deeper understanding of God's nature breathed new life into the ministry.
The Essence of Sharing Jesus' Hope
In our five-part series on core values, we've explored family, relationships, experience, and safety. Today, we culminate with the most vital aspect: the hope of Jesus. While the other values create a conducive environment, it's the hope of Jesus that truly transforms lives.
Here's how we can effectively share this hope:
Teach from the Bible: Ensure that every lesson is rooted in the scriptures. Reading directly from the Bible reinforces its relevance and timelessness.
Encourage Scripture Memorization: By internalizing God's word, children are equipped with spiritual tools to navigate life's challenges.
Speak Life: Continuously affirm God's promises over the children. Remind them of His unwavering love, plans, and desire for a relationship with them.
Foster a Prayerful Environment: Encourage children to share their testimonies and pray with faith. Witnessing answered prayers strengthens their belief in God's omnipotence.
Hope as a Catalyst
The hope of Jesus is not just a concept; it's a transformative force. When children grasp this hope, they not only internalize it but also become ambassadors, spreading it to their peers. This hope is contagious, and as we instill it in our young ones, we witness a ripple effect, touching lives beyond the confines of the church.
In conclusion, as I always emphasize, let's continually strive to keep our Kids Ministry fresh, vibrant, and centered on the eternal hope of Jesus. It's this hope that anchors our faith, fuels our passion, and drives our mission.
